Russia was aginst germany italy and austria/hungray. Russia responded with the arch dukes assanition with confidence about backing up serbia. serbia called for russias aid and russia turned to britan britan turned to france and on the other side of the war austria/hungray turned to germany and later italy joined in with germany. and that is how ww1 started.
the picture on the rightis the schlieffen plan. it was desinged to stop what germany didnt want a two front war. what was suposed to happen is that germany would move through belgium and go behind frances lines. what they didnt expect is that britan would declair war on germany for tacking over belgium. belgium was neutral in this. the germans thought that Russias masive army of 6 million would take a long time to mobilize but they mobilized faster than expected and the schlieffen plan failed.
week1 hi my name is fred gavanavitch. i was a russian infantry man in the masive russian army. my unit was put on the front line in the eastern front. we faced opsticles like machine guns heavy artilery. we had been traped in the bunkers for about three weeks and the bombarding would never stop. finaly we saw a break the machine gun that was pining us down finally jamed and we charged to the next trench.
week2the machine gun that jamed didnt stay jamed for long. we were half way to the second trench when it started firing agin. the condishins in the trenches were bad enough now we had wonded to tend to. and the rats were everywere in the trenches. most of them had desises like malarea. all of the people in my unit was tired warn out by the constant weeks of no sleep it was hard on everybody. the trenches were the werst place to be in war time germany had the uper hand and the beter technolgy

we were still held up in the tenches but things stared to get better there was a rumor going thruogh the trenches that there was a revolution in russia that it wouldnt be long until we backed out of the war. that was a good rumor but i found it hard to belive that russia protector of the slavs would back out of a war that could kill many slavs and destroy slavic nations. our army was getting weacker by the year we were we had been fighting the war for two years i coldnt se russia leving fellow slavic countrys to fend for themselves.

it was strange all of the sudon the enmy stoped firing and then we got the news. russia had sined a treaty with germany that we could get home and see our wives and children what they didnt tell us was it wouldnt be right away. that there was a revolution that needs stoped. on our final day we met with some germans and talked they asked us why we were so brave to run into machine gun fire. we told them that we were the protectors of slavic nations and serbia is a slavic nation. we said goodby and headed back to the base.
week5
when we got back to the base we had to stay there for three weeks when i got shiped back home i saw my family at the train station. we went back home and had a big dinner. it was sad i only got to see my faimly for three days before i had to go to the base to get my orders they sent me to moscow to protect the sar but the revolution was sttronger then i thought than what anybody thought. the bad part of the job was that if the ar got shot at we had to protect him and during ww1 i had seen enough killing.

the atempt to end the revolution failed the sar was over thrown and a new russia was born. since i had seen my share of killing i have asked permission to leve the army and return to my faimly. so i returned home and when i got here i herd the most shocking news that the u.s.had entered the war with 2million troops aginst germany. that the war would soon be over. at the begining thy said that this would be the war to end all wars they were wrong at the end it had just brought up a more deadly war and mastermind.
